Sharon Houkema (1975, NL) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld academy and the Rijksakademie Amsterdam. Her work reflects her interest in the social aspects of ecological/earth-system problems. She rearranges material and style characteristics from a certain context into whole that emphasizes the relationships between the parts.
Next to working in public space, offline / online publishing, her work featured in El Eco Museo Experimental Mexico City, ViaFarini in Milan, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Fact Liverpool, La Casa Endida in Madrid, DUCTAC in Dubai, CTM festival Berlin, and White Box New York. She was nominated for the Mamacash art award in 2003 and received the Volkskrant audience award in 2010.
