Sharon Houkema (1975, NL) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld academy and the Rijksakademie Amsterdam. Her work relates to social structures, ecological/earth-system problems and strategies of change. She use (visual) materials and style characteristics from a certain context, and rearranges them into a whole that emphasizes the relationships between the separate parts. Next to working in public space, publishing offline / online, her work has been exhibited in El Eco Museo Experimental Mexico City, ViaFarini in Milan, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Fact Liverpool, La Casa Endida in Madrid, DUCTAC in Dubai, CTM festival Berlin, and White Box New York. She was nominated for the Mamacash art award in 2003 and received the Volkskrant audience award in 2010.
